Review: Jaclyn Cosmetics So Rich Lipsticks

Hey Guys,
So I honestly wasn't sure if I was going to do this review after all of the drama surrounding this launch. However, I did a poll on Instagram and 86% of the people that voted still wanted to see it. Before I even get into my review of the lipsticks, I'm going to share my honest opinion on the whole matter. This is my blog and my personal opinion. I'm sure not everyone shares the same views as me and that's totally fine.

But here are my thoughts...there are so many more serious things to worry about going on in this world aside from a damn lipstick not being perfect. The whole beauty community has been so dramatic about this and it's honestly ridiculous. Do I think Jaclyn fucked up and made some bad business choices? Yes. Does that mean she should be bullied and dragged through the mud over it by customers, beauty influencers, and other professionals in the beauty industry? No. Sorry, but no one deserves to be treated like that. NO ONE. As the business owner yes she should be held accountable but the way people are acting is disgusting. Do I think that she took a bit too long to come forward and speak on the matter? Yes. But I also understand this is her BUSINESS and she has to consult lawyers, her team, the labs, etc. before she speaks on all of the different issues. I spent over $100.00 on 6 lipsticks and did have some fibers on a couple of them that I noticed while taking blog pics. Do you know what I did? I picked them off and moved along. It didn't look like mold, human hair, etc. It was pretty obvious that it was a fiber. Now would I be upset if I had human hairs on my products? Yes. But guess what? She has stated SEVERAL times that anyone that has ANY issues can get a full refund and free replacement. If all of my lipsticks were hairy or broken then I would have just contacted them and returned them. That is what I did when I was unhappy with the Becca palette that she collaborated on. For the people claiming to get burned by the lipstick or cut by metal shards in the lipstick. I honestly find it hard to believe. It's really easy to have a red mark on your skin after applying product anywhere and wiping it off. I do swatches all the time and it always happens. BUT if I am completely wrong and they are in fact being burned or cut by the lipstick then of course they are 100% entitled to a lawsuit. If they are lying then karma will play itself out. I have no proof of either or so that's really all I have to say about that. If you were worried about your lipstick being unsafe, all you had to do was put it aside like I did until Jaclyn spoke on it. And if you still don't believe her explanation, simply return it. If you don't want to support her anymore, then don't. But back to my point of this rant. I honestly just think this drama is sad. I have had far worse things happen to me in my life and have seen far more serious things in others lives to worry about a faulty "hairy, moldy, broken" lipstick. Makeup just really isn't that important or serious in the grand scheme of things....So anyways, let's move on to my review of the lipsticks.

Review: Jaclyn Cosmetics So Rich Lipsticks
I was super excited about this launch! I hopped right on the site as soon as it went live. Of course there were a million people trying to order the lipsticks at the same time so the site was glitchy and I wasn't able to get a couple of the lipsticks that I wanted. I was also unsure about some of the lighter shades so I skipped on those. Jaclyn does plan to restock so I will just order those shades once they are back in stock. The shades were grouped into 5 categories: Bare, Romantic, Mocha, Flirty, Cocoa. I picked up 6 lipsticks. Below are the shades that I picked up and my personal experience with the lipsticks.

Nude AF
Review: Jaclyn Cosmetics So Rich Lipsticks
Nude AF is described as a cream nude. Its definitely super light and I would never wear this on its own. It almost looks like concealer on my lips. I knew I wasn't going to like this shade on its own but I purchased it to create the pouty look Jaclyn said that you can create by popping it in the center of your lips on top of a darker shade. I don't see a big difference doing that. I don't have large lips so maybe that's why. I probably should have just passed on this one.

Sofia
Review: Jaclyn Cosmetics So Rich Lipsticks
Sofia is described as a dusty rose. It's very close to my natural lip color so I would call this my "my lips but better shade". I really like this shade and think it's an easy and natural everyday lip color for lighter skin tones. Update: As I have been using this more and more I have noticed some grittiness to this shade. It's a bit annoying but the color is still pigmented and smooth and I don't care enough to go through the trouble of returning it.

Cheeky
Review: Jaclyn Cosmetics So Rich Lipsticks
Cheeky is described as a Chai Latte. This definitely pulls a more cool toned brown on me. It's not dark brown but more of a medium brown. I do like this shade but didn't think I would reach for it a lot. However, I do find myself reaching for it and actually really like the color.

Gossip
Review: Jaclyn Cosmetics So Rich Lipsticks
Gossip is described as a toffee. It's definitely more warm brown on me than I thought it was going to be. It's another medium brown shade. I think I will like this shade better on me once I have a tan.

Independent
Review: Jaclyn Cosmetics So Rich Lipsticks
Independent is described as a praline. This is another shade that I would probably wear as an everyday shade. Its a bit darker and more brown toned than Sofia but still pretty neutral. At least on me.

Fussy
Review: Jaclyn Cosmetics So Rich Lipsticks
Fussy is described as a chocolate mauve. I definitely see some purple tones in this lipstick. I like it but I do wish it had a bit more purple to it and less brown. I think this will look great with Taupe shadows.

On to my thoughts:

Overall, I do really like these lipsticks. The packaging is honestly gorgeous. You can tell she spent a ton of time thinking the design out. It's very ornate and beautiful and I don't own any other lipsticks quite as luxurious. When it comes to the caramel/vanilla scent  I do like it and think it's pleasant. I'm sure it won't be for everyone but I do like it personally. In terms of the formula, I think the lipsticks are creamy and pigmented. They feel good on the lips. I only got one lipstick with a little grit to it but it wasn't that serious. I did have a hard time doing lip swatches because of how creamy the lipsticks were. I prefer a bit more of a matte lipstick but I still think these are really nice. They actually wore a lot longer than I thought they were going to when eating or drinking. Formula wise, if I could compare them to another brand I would say they are similar but not exact to the Becca Ultimate Lipstick Love lipsticks. I actually prefer Jaclyn's though as they are a bit more pigmented and less creamy. I think Jaclyn did an amazing job at shade creation making sure that she included the perfect nude for all skin tones.

Now do I recommend these? After all of this controversy I'm not going to tell someone that they should or shouldn't buy them. I think they need to look at the facts and form their own opinions before deciding to purchase. I'm sure Jaclyn learned from her mistakes and going forward will make sure none of these issues occur ever again. I personally like them and will definitely be picking up Hustle when it comes back in stock. Maybe Amazeballs and Obsessed too.

Did you pick up the Jaclyn So Rich lipsticks? What are your thoughts on them? Post your comments below!
